Shipwreck Diner, Northport, New York

At least for one meal

Northport is one of those towns that looks like a fly in amber.  A two block long main street that opens out onto the Long Island Sound.  Businesses that have been here since the early part of the twentieth century.  Boats, dogs, people, water.  It’s a recipe for a nice outing for those who live in the New York Metropolitan area.

Both times I’ve been there,  I have stopped for breakfast at the Shipwreck Diner. A shotgun deep place that’s been in business since 1913.  They may have changed the calendar behind the cash register a few times, but little else.

The place jumps with business.  They have indoor and outdoor seating. Plenty of old-fashioned choices.  I like it.  I think you’ll like it too. Up until twenty year’s ago it was Otto’s Shipwreck, but now it’s Tim’s.  Way to go, Tim.  This place is a winner.  Authentic. Great service.  Good food.  Highly recommended.

And out in front is even a place to water the dog.  Lotsa dogs in Northport.  And time for a stroll on the waterfront.  Free parking.  What more could you want?

Stroll the dock at Northport Village.

Well, a stop at the vintage candy store across the street from Shripwrecked isn’t bad.  Old timey soda fountain, homemade ice cream and chocolates.  Try the almond bark.  Highly recommended.
