The Cooking Eagle lands on Orange Lawn Tennis Club

The Eagle Has Landed

David Burke has brought his genius in the kitchen to South Orange Maplewood.  And aren’t we the lucky ducks who live here to have this brilliant chef right in our own back yard.

David proves yet again,  that Maplewood South Orange is a crack in the world.  It attracts talented people to live here and to have a chef of the world class of David Burke just makes the case.

I have known David and followed his trajectory into the culinary heavens for a number of years.  He is truly a force of nature, a brilliant chef who brings his amazing gifts to the kitchen and to his guests, where ever he is.

One of David’s gifts is his playful nature.  Never one to take himself or his talents too seriously, only David would create edible tennis balls that are a dead ringer for the real thing,  but delicious to eat as well.

He has also created a clothesline with a line full of divine bacon strips that are served only after they have had a pass under a blow torch just for good measure. Everything’s better with bacon, but David’s take on it is just fun.

David’s latest venue is the iconic Orange Lawn Tennis club, sitting on 16 acres, the 140 year old club has 20 tennis courts (14 clay courts, and six grass courts), five paddle courts, an aquatics center, summer camp, a variety of fun programmed sporting activities throughout the summer, and the poolside 40 Love Pub to enjoy al fresco dining. Orange Lawn is a unique social club, with year-round offerings—providing exquisite David Burke designed meals and entertainment for families and friends to enjoy.

Operating as a private club, Orange Lawn has Special Exclusive Dining Only memberships for $10. Per year.  Get your name on the mailing list by getting a membership and you’ll be the first to know of special events from Fourth of July to Christmas holidays.

Believe me when I tell you there is nothing to even come close to this venue for special events. This is truly Splendor on the Grass.

Yesterday,  on the Fourth of July, our family joined hundreds of other families on the grass in front o the old stone house to celebrate the holiday.  The kids ran around bare footed,   the grown ups relaxed and enjoyed the beauty and serenity of the spot, plus the David Burke extravaganza of a Fourth of July Feast was unforgettable.

Ribs, sauteed salmon, hamburgers,  hot dogs, beef tenderloin.  It was all there and all perfect. The vegetables, both hot and cold were delicious. The well beloved David Burke French Fries kept coming.  It was all just stupendous.

The bar was well stocked and ready for all comers. David’s own Village Manhattan was my drink of choice. The dessert bar had everything from home made ice cream to cookies and jello chocolate pudding for the kids.  There was no detail too small.  David Burke thinks of everything.

One of Mr. Burke’s accomplishments is also a well-trained wait staff who kept every guest happy and satisfied.  No request was too small.  No detail went unmet.

Nothing else in this neck of the woods can compare, so I say if you want to take a friend out for a special event, birthday +dinner or brunch, you couldn’t find a better spot than the Orange Lawn Tennis Club. Throwing a fantastic wedding ? Orange Lawn is the spot. Got an anniversary coming up? Here’s the perfect venue.

David is known for his French fries and his Steak Frites, served poolside at his

Outdoor 40 Love Pub by the pool. Perfect for a weekend brunch date.
