Bay Leaf: Redefined Indian Cuisine in South Orange, New Jersey

By on August 1, 2019

Let’s hear it for the ancient cultures,  the places in time and place where cuisine has been refined and redefined until it is perfect.

On Main street, in South Orange, New Jersey, we have just such a place and it goes by the simple name – Bay Leaf.  I love it.

Bay Leaf

A restaurant located in downtown South Orange, New Jersey. this is the sort of oasis that is so welcome after a morning’s or a hard day’s work.  I like to pop in for an impromptu lunch.  For about eleven bucks you can enjoy the buffet with its many authentic Indian dishes.  Everything from Chaats like potato tikki or samosa chaat to biryanis like Jeera Rice with cumin seeds to the more predictable but always pleasing curries and tandooris.

Today,  I just got a plate full of Indian dishes,  a little of this,  a little of that.  The waiter brought over freshly made and hot bread, known as Naan, a pitcher of ice water, which was really welcome after the spicy and luscious Indian dishes.

This is just the sort of food I want to eat out. I do not want a recipe.  I do not want to learn how to cook it.  I just want to sit down in the Bay Leaf,  luxuriate  at the white table clothed booth, and eat to my heart’s content.  Yes.  That is my idea of heaven.

Every day Lunch Buffet, fine dining,  take out, delivery, catering and a party hall.

lunch served 11:39 am to 3 pm.  Dinner 5 pm to 10 pm.

This place is a winner.  They call it redefined Indian Cuisine.  I just call it heaven on a plate.

What a wonderful review you’ve given to the Bayleaf restaurant. I cannot wait to go there. I love Indian food. So nice to have this right and South Orange where I live.
